Week 1: Sydney & Beach Camp Adventure
Your first week's adventure introduction to Australia will look like this:
Day 1, Sunday: Arrive in Sydney. You will arrive on a Sunday and are then free to spend the day as you wish. You can take time to relax, sleep off your jetlag or explore the sights of Sydney at your leisure.
Day 2, Monday: Sydney. Meet your group and coordinator in the morning in the hostel reception for a city walking tour. Walk to Darling Harbour for a leisurely lunch (own expense) then take in the stunning Botanic Gardens and see the iconic Opera House. In the evening, meet at 7.30p.m in the hostel reception and get to know your group over a welcome dinner. Discover the Sydney backpacker bars and make new mates Down Under! Shared dinner and a drink are included.
Day 3, Tuesday: Sydney. Your day kicks off at 9.15am with a comprehensive orientation learning all about working and travelling in Australia! Enjoy a boat party in Sydney Harbour and see this stunning coastal city from the comfort of a catamaran. Walk to Darling Harbour and spend the afternoon enjoying the sun, sea and sand before hitting the town at night with the group. Lunch is included.
Day 4, Wednesday: Beach Camp. Depart Sydney for a 2-night Beach Camp adventure. At 1pm you meet back at the hostel reception and walk to catch the bus to Beach Camp. Discover some prime Aussie scenery and wildlife just 5 minutes’ walk from the beach. From admiring stunning sand dune scenery to joining wildlife tours, you can relax in this beachside escape surrounded by a total of six acres of rainforest; keep an eye out for echidnas and kick back with the tame camp kangaroo. After exploring, swimming & dolphin spotting, share a pizza before grabbing your torch for a bit of night-time possum spotting! Dinner is included.
Day 5, Thursday: Beach Camp. Inject a little more action into your Australian week on a 4x4 tour of the sand dunes (and some sandboarding!) before learning about local Aboriginal cultures. After lunch, take a bushwalk through Tomaree National Park, spotting koalas amidst the treetops and working up an appetite for a roaring evening BBQ and drinks around the campfire. If your trip is between the months of May and November you may also have the chance to spot a few migrating whales along the way. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
Day 6, Friday: Beach Camp–Sydney. On this free-spirited Friday you'll be looking out for some wild Bottlenose dolphins, as well as a few turtles and whales along the way. Browsing the coastline on a boat cruise, you can either keep lookout up on deck or hang out in the sea spray, sitting in the water-skimming boom net while dolphins swim underneath you. After a last trip to the beach the group heads back to Sydney and you can spend the rest of the day relaxing back at the hostel, or head out for a night on the town. Breakfast is included.
Day 7, Saturday: Party Night. Spend today chilling out at the hostel or exploring Sydney. Today is also a good opportunity to ask the local team any questions you may have about your onward travel plans. This evening is all about partying as you meet your group at 7.30pm in a bar in Darling Harbour (bring your ID). Enjoy entry to four city bars and clubs (plus 4 inclusive drinks!) as you kick off your night on the town. You'll be provided with a party bus for the evening so you can explore the streets in style on this Sydney city pub crawl!
Day 8, Sunday: Bondi to Coogee Beach Tour. Breathe in the fresh ocean air on a Coogee to Bondi beach tour, checking out some gorgeous coastlines on a cliff-top walk. The tour leaves at 10am from your hostel (bring some money for lunch and a bus fare). Comfy shoes and swimming costume are a must! It’s the perfect way to chill out after an action packed first week in Australia. Your intro activity week ends today. Time to get cracking on your working holiday adventure!

You should arrange your flights to arrive into Sydney Airport (SYD) on a Sunday, depending on your start date. You will need to go to a pre-set meeting point at Sydney airport and a greeter will direct you to the shuttle bus which will take you directly to your hostel to begin your first week of fun and adventure!
If you want to arrive a few days earlier into Sydney, we will be happy to help you organise any additional accommodation you may need (at extra cost). Please contact us for further details.
Week 1: Sydney & Beach Camp Adventure
Your first week is all about fun and adventure in Sydney and at Beach Camp: Accommodation for the first seven nights of your stay is included, in a city centre hostel in Sydney during nights 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7, and in shared accommodation during your stay at beach camp on nights 4 and 5. If you wish to pre-book an extra night's accommodation on the final Sunday please let your travel advisor know and they will do this for you.
In your hostel in Sydney, you’ll enjoy modern facilities in shared dorm accommodation with up to 10 people. Sharing in hostels is often the best way to meet a lot of new people very quickly, and by the end of the week, you’ll have heaps of new mates to discover the land Down Under with!
The hostel is a hub of exciting city action, with its own backpacker bar where you can hang out with your new dorm buddies and stock up on tasty local tucker and enjoy a few drinks. The on site café serves breakfast and there’s also a kitchen with fridges and storage, and you can chill out in the TV lounge for some Down Under down-time.
The hostel has 24-hour reception, a travel and information desk so you can get all the top city tips and book tours. The hostel has all the facilities on offer you can ask for, including phone booths on every floor, security lockers, laundry facilities, Internet and Wi-Fi, and a postal service.
Beach Camp has free Wi-Fi so you can keep in touch with friends and family. You may stay in multi-share dorm rooms of 6 people or camp outside in tents under the stars!
In your first week, some meals are included, including a group welcome dinner of pizza on Monday, Beach Camp dinners (typical meals include pizza, fresh salads and wraps, steaks, sausages, chicken and pavlova or ice cream for dessert) and four free drinks on your Sydney bar cruise (see the itinerary for further details). With cooking facilities and the on-site restaurant/café at the hostel, plus all of Sydney’s great restaurants and bars, you’ll never be far from your next good feed!
What do I do about accommodation after the first week?
After the first week, most of our travellers choose to rent an apartment, often sharing with the new friends they have made in the first week. Our team in Sydney will be able to help you explore possible accommodation options either in Sydney or elsewhere in Australia. Our team works with a local Sydney accommodation supplier who offers fully furnished accommodation in the CBD, Eastern & Western suburbs. Participants can make an appointment through the job team, to be shown different available Sydney properties. Please be aware that accommodation costs in Sydney can be high due to the desirability of the city as a location to live and work, but it's worth it for the experience! Alternatively, you can apply for jobs further afield in Australia.
You can expect to pay at least £100-£150 per week on average for rent in Australia (costs in Sydney can be a little higher than average). The minimum contract is normally 3 months but some agencies will ask you to commit to six months. Alternatively you can extend your stay in a hostel - a great option for those that want to travel around. Hostels offer cheaper rates for those that want a long term stay. You can often walk in and get a room that day but we recommend that you make a reservation the night before. Depending on where you stay in Australia, you can expect to pay around £140-£175 per week in a hostel.
Please note that when you are working in Australia, you will earn enough to cover any living expenses such as rent, food and bills. If you would like any more information about costs and accommodation please contact us for more details.
