Course Details

Split into a number of sections throughout the day, the course is held either in person in central London or Northamptonshire, or virtually via online video conferencing, and runs between 9.30am and 15.45.

Aiming to get you confident and prepared (and most importantly, keep you safe), you'll be taught how to deal with likely problems you may face along the way, and be shown how to quickly recognise dangers, use your initiative, think on your feet, and make the most of any situation.

The sections you'll cover whilst on the course include:

  • Before You Go - How to prepare for your trip, including research into issues regarding local laws, religions, cultures and local customs, potential terrorism and security risks
  • Over There - Where to stay, how to carry money, safe food and water practices, and how best to deal with authorities (such as police or the army etc).
  • Keeping Yourself Going - Including a look at incident management, this section largely deals with first aid and medical issues, and teaches you how to perform emergency first aid, recognise and treat shock and altitude sickness, treat hot and cold injuries and other common ailments, and generally raise your awareness of the importance of health and hygiene during your travels.
  • What to Take - Kit briefings and advice on how and what to pack and wear; both everyday and whilst you're on the move.
  • Getting About - Do's and don'ts of taxis, buses, boats, driving, hitchbhiking, backpacking, and safe travel with new people.
  • Keeping Safe - how to avoid becoming a victim, how to keep a low profile, how to diffuse confrontations, and how to deal with and avoid a range of dangers, from muggings and pick pocketing, to kidnappings and extreme situation survival.
  • Gender Specifics - For Girls, by Girls - discussing common female travel issues and what to expect, such as appropriate dress codes, varying cultural attitudes towards women, and how to avoid sexual harassment along the way.
Thank you for all your help with organising the safety course for our daughter and her partner. They said they had a great day and really enjoyed it and shared with us so much information. There was a lot they didn't know beforehand. As parents we feel very reassured now that they have had this safety course. Thank you!
